Hi! This is a translation of Marvin Grauwolf's poem "Mutter Natur". I made it out of boredome and asked him if I could upload it. He said yes so here we are. He even made a cover for me!
I'm no native speaker, no professional translator, and mostly just tried to keep the rhythm, so if you find any mistakes tell me and I'll try to fix it.
It is said
a mother's love
is the greatest force upon this world.
Did you know?
An octopus
lays eggs only once in her life.
Sie guards them, watches them for weeks
and dies
giving her body for the Young.
Have you seen
the crocodil,
carrying the kids inside it's mouth?
The herd of elephants, who won't
leave their little ones alone?
The whale-mother
pushing up her calf
to help it breathe a little
easier?
Have you not seen them?
A kangaroo
with two, with three
joeys at the very same time?
The safe home built by bee
polar bear
and ant?
And have you heard the doe call out
assuring the fawn it's safe to leave
the thick bushes' protective cover?
Did you hear the turtle cry alone
as quiet waters lick the shore?
Have you heard the kittens purring?
The tweeting of the smallest bird?
Have you ever seen
eight little ducklings
following their mothers trail?
Did you see the swan as their chick’s boat
or the monkey in his mother’s arm?
And do you know about the fathers
of toad and seahorse, that give as much
love as mothers give their young?
Have you seen the penguins?
Both parents starving in the ice,
warming eggs and chicks on their feet.
Did you see
the otter-mom
gently rocking her kids to sleep?
Have you never seen the parents carrying,
protecting their kids,
caring lovingly?
Haven't you seen the price they pay?
Lifetime, freedom, food and life –
they fearlessly give up for their kids?
Tell me:
Did you see the deer,
the goose, the goat,
the elephant and the giraffe –
Did you see them fight alone
against a pack of murderous hunters?
Didn't you see the mothers, that
threw themselves 'gainst death itself?
Haven't you ever seen them fight;
Parents
these strongest
beings of our world?
That make impossible come true,
stare in the eye of every foe.
Haven't you heard the wildest roar,
as a tiny, helpless mom
attacks the goliath for her kids?
The Smallest
fighting against giants –
have you seen them win the war
against all odds, just for their child?
Say, have you seen it,
did you hear?
Then now you know.
We also call her our mother,
as from her heart and soul we came.
But we are not the only child
of our glorious mother earth.
Oh, do you think
that she will save us,
at the cost of all the others?
Us, who we take calf from cow,
slave the daughters, shred the sons?
Us, who we lay out the traps?
Us, who we throw out the net?
What
tell me
says a mother bird
to the cuckoo in her nest;
the crocodile to creeping egg-thieves;
what says the lioness to foreign males?
So there we went and woke the rage
of the greatest mother known to us.
Tell me:
Did you see mice bite the cat?
The bat growling at the human?
Then tell me,
what doom might she bring?
The mother of all seas and storms,
the queen of raging fire-bursts,
and of the ground upon we stand?
When lightning, quake and earth-blood come
when Heath does burn
and Cold does bite
when all cuckoo-child's weapons fail
creation’s crown begs to be spared:
Do not forget what force we fight,
what threath we were to force her to.
It is said
a mother's love
is the greatest force upon this world.
And no-one – not one single soul – can
escape her fury when it comes.
