I can still see your face,
Clearly in my mind.
My memories, forming images
Of when we were young.
It feels like a soft rewind
Into the past
With you.
When I close my eyes
I can hear the wind
Softly brushing
Over the field’s crops
While gently
Touching my skin.
Like always you‘d laugh,
Saying:
“Don’t you dare fall asleep now.“
Then I‘d look up at you,
Smiling:
“Don’t worry, I’m awake.“
This would be our routine.
Our precious routine.
Everytime I lie there,
Enjoying what we have.
What we had.
Now, when I open my eyes
It’s different.
There are no fields
There is no wind.
There’s only a constant
Humming sound
Of the machine
Beside you.
Now I’m awake.
And you’re asleep.
Forever.
