Dear Assemblywoman Bauer-Kahan,
I don't know if you'll ever read this. I know you're a busy woman.
But if you do get to read this, just know I'm your side. I voted for you.
I voted blue this time. I couldn't in good conscience vote red. Even though I voted for you, it is my obligation and responsibility to inform you of my disagreement with your party's stance on abortion.
I don't know if you are a person of faith, but one does not necessarily need to invoke religion to make an argument against the evil of abortion. I am pro-life and my argument is this: a fetus in the womb of its mother is a human being. If the fetus were a toddler or an older child, would you grant the mother the legal right to kill the child?
Therefore, since a fetus is a human being, it has the same inalienable rights as every human being. Among these rights is the right to live, ma'am.
Just because I am pro-life does not mean I am not pro-woman. On the contrary, I am all for women's rights. I believe women should be paid the same as men for the same work in the same field. I believe a woman should be able to choose her job and career field. A woman should be able to make decisions about her own body and take of care of it.
However, the right to safe, legal, and rare abortions is not part of women's rights in my view. Abortion is not a part of making decisions about one's body and taking good care of it.
To me, it is not a valid option. It is the downright murder of innocents.
I would not condemn a struggling mother. Adoption is an option.
I wish you all the best of luck. You will be in my prayers.
Sincerely,
Susana
