Hannibal: "You sit in that chair, Will, as you have so many times before. It holds among its molecules the vibrations of all our conversations ever held in its presence."
Will: "All the exchanges, the petty irritations, deadly revelations, flat announcements of disaster."
Hannibal: "The grunts and poetry of life. Everything we've ever said. Listen. What do you hear?"
Will: "A melody."
Hannibal: "We're orchestrations of carbon. You and me."
Will: "And Jack."
Hannibal: "And Jack. All our destinies flying and swimming in blood and emptiness." Hannibal (deleted line): "Little did Agent Crawford know what waited for him when he stepped into my office that very first time. How seldom we recognize the sound when the bolt of fate slides home."
Will to Jack: "Everybody's settling in for dinner."
Jack: "I'm wearing a wire. I have sharp shooters on the roofs of neighbouring houses with lines of sight to all the windows."
Will to Jack: "He'll try to kill you in the kitchen. For convenience. Make it easier to prepare the tartar."
Will to Hannibal: "Jack won't be easy to kill. He'll be armed. He's strong, well-trained. We can't hesitate."
Hannibal (deleted line): "Hesitation is a consequence of indecision or uncertainty. I'm not suffering from either. Are you?"
Jack: "Hannibal thinks you are his man in the room. I think you're mine."
Hannibal: "When a fox hears a rabbit scream, he comes running. But not to help. When you hear Jack scream, why will you come running? When the moment comes -"
Jack: "When the moment comes -"
Jack/ Hannibal: "Will you do what needs to be done?"
Will to both: "Oh yes."
Bella: "Forgiveness is such a profound, conscious and unconscious state of affairs. You can't actually choose to do it. It simply happens to you."
Hannibal: "Does forgiveness happen to you?"
Bella: "I died. I'm between deaths."
Hannibal: "The punctuation at the end of a sentence gives meaning to every word, every space that preceded it."
Bella: "They moved my punctuation mark, Dr. Lecter. You moved my meaning." (coughing) "I'm not here because I want to be here. You saw to that. I'm here... because I can't abandon Jack. Not again."
Hannibal: "Love and death are the great hinges on which all human sympathies turn. What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others... That's beyond us."
Bella: "You saved me for Jack. Will you save him for me, when I'm gone?"
Freddie: "I'm going to enjoy my resurrection. Nothing sells better than a survival story."
Will: "I wouldn't count us as survivors just yet, Freddie."
Freddie: "Counting me as a survivor? (...)"
Will: "We're all desperate for a little hope. I want to ask you to do something for me, Freddie. Or rather, don't. Don't write about Abigail. You can write about me. You can write about Hannibal. But, leave Abigail alone."
Freddie: "You really don't know if you're going to survive him, do you?"
Will: "Just let her rest in peace."
Will: "These are your notes on me."
Hannibal: "So they are."
Will: "Don't your patients need these after you're gone?"
Hannibal: "The FBI will pore over my notes if I left them intact. I will spare my patients the scrutiny. I'm dismantling who I was and moving it brick by brick. When we've gone from this life, Jack Crawford and the FBI behind us, I will always have this place."
Will: "In your memory palace?"
Hannibal: "My palace is vast, even by medieval standards. The foyer is of Norman Chapel in Palermo. Severe, beautiful and timeless. With a single reminder of mortality. A skull. Graven in the floor."
Will: "All I need is... a stream."
Hannibal: "In those moments where you can't overcome your surroundings, you can make it all go away."
Will: "Put my head back, close my eyes, wade into the quiet of the stream."
Hannibal: "If I'm ever apprehended, my memory palace will serve as more than a mnemonic system. I will live there."
Will: "Could you be happy there?"
Hannibal: "All the palace chambers are not lovely, light and bright. In the walls of our hearts and brains, danger waits. There are holes in the floor of the mind."
(Hannibal leans towards Will, smells Freddie Lounds)
Bryan Fuller: "When he smells Freddie Lounds on Will Graham, he is so struck in that moment because Hannibal was convinced. Will's plan succeeded, he absolutely seduced Hannibal Lecter. That's part of it for Hannibal. You tricked me, and I allowed myself to be tricked. The other part was just the devastating loss of the relationship."
Alana: "In the few jerky seconds of sleep I do get, all I see is dark, swarming behind my eyelids. I dream darkness comes into me. It comes and it's insidious. Up my nose into my ears. I feel poisoned."
Will: "We've all been poisoned."
Alana: "You saw what no one else could."
Will: "All it took was the, uh, traumatic."
Alana: "We're still in the thick of it."
Will: "We're getting through the worst of it."
Alana: "You've set some sort of trap and you're goading Hannibal into it. How can you be sure he's not goading you?"
Will: "I can't."
Hannibal: "Do you know what an imago is, Will?"
Will: "It's a flying insect."
Hannibal: "It's the last stage of a transformation."
Will: "When you become who you will be?"
Hannibal: "It's also a term from the dead religion of psychoanalysis. An imago is an image of a loved one, buried in the unconscious, carried with us all our lives."
Will: "An ideal."
Hannibal: "The concept of an ideal... I have a concept of you, just as you have a concept of me."
Will: "Neither of us ideal."
script: Hannibal considers that; there was a brief moment that he believed the ideal before he smelled betrayal.
Hannibal: "Both of us are too curious about too many things for any ideals. Is it ideal that Jack die?"
Will: "It's necessary. What happens to Jack has been preordained."
Hannibal: "We could disappear now. Tonight. Feed your dogs, leave a note for Alana and never see her or Jack again. Almost polite."
Will: "Then this would be our last supper."
Hannibal: "Of this life. We'll serve lamb."
Will: "Sacrificial."
Hannibal: "I don't need a sacrifice. Do you?"
Will: "I need him to know. If I confess to Jack Crawford right now..." (deleted line: "...you think he would forgive me?")
Hannibal: "I would forgive you. If Jack were to tell you all is forgiven, would you accept his forgiveness?"
Will: "Jack isn't offering forgiveness. He wants... justice. He wants to see you, see who you are. See what I've become. He wants the truth."
Hannibal: "To the truth, then. And all its consequences."
script: stay on Hannibal, tears threatening to brim in his eyes
(phone rings in Will's house) Will: "Hello?"
Alana: "It's Alana. Is Jack with you?"
Will: "No, why?"
Alana: "They've issued a warrant for your arrest, Will. For acting as an accessory to entrapment. And for the murder of Randall Tier. They're going to arrest Jack as well. Will?"
Will: "Goodbye, Alana."
(phone rings in Hannibal's kitchen) Hannibal: "Hello?"
Will: "They know."
Jack: "I want to thank you for your friendship, Hannibal."
Hannibal: "The most beautiful quality of a true friendship is to understand them. Be understood with absolute clarity."
Jack: "And this is... the clearest moment of our friendship."
Will: "Abigail?"
Abigail: "I didn't know what else to do, so... I just did what he told me."
Will: "Where is he? You were supposed... to leave."
Hannibal: "We couldn't leave without you." (touches Will's face, stabs him, pulls him close, hugs him, script: heartbroken) "Time did reverse. The teacup that I shattered did come together. The place was made for Abigail and your world. Do you understand? The place was made for all of us, together. I wanted to surprise you. And you... You wanted to surprise me." (lets Will down. Will is shaking, trying to remain conscious and out of shock.) Hannibal: "I let you know me. See me. I gave you a rare gift. But you didn't want it."
initial script: Hannibal: "I let you in. I let you know me. I let you see me." Will: "You wanted to be seen." Hannibal: "By you. A rare gift I've given you. But you didn't want it."
Will: "Didn't I?"
Hannibal: "You would deny me my life."
Will: "N... no. No. Not your life, no."
Hannibal: "My freedom then, you would take that from me. Confine me to a prison cell. Do you believe you could change me, the way I've changed you?"
Will: "I already did."
script: Hannibal studies Will a moment, realizing he's right.
Hannibal: "Fate and circumstance have returned us to this moment when the teacup shatters. I forgive you, Will. Will you forgive me?"
Will: "Don't, don't... No. No."
Hannibal: "Abigail, come to me."
Will: "No, no, no!"
Hannibal: "You can make it all go away. Put your head back. Close your eyes. Wade into the quiet of the stream."
"There's forgiveness." When Jack asks what kind of victim would "forgive the killer at the moment of death", I immediately think of how Will stared at Hannibal in the same way in Mizumono. He didn't fight. He didn't move. Just accepted. There's forgiveness.
scene: Hannibal walks out in the rain, putting on Will's coat
