Dean: "Now, we couldn't make Chuck pay, but Billie? She left her blade. Her I can kill."
Sam: "I don't..."
Dean: "We don't have a choice, Sam."
Cas: "I'll go with you, Dean." 15.18
Dean: "Come on. Come on, Dean. Think. Think!"
Cas: "Dean, where are you going?!"
Dean: "I... I don't know!"
Cas: "You know she can find us anywhere."
Dean: "I know, I know that! I just... What do we do, Ca–"
(Dean is interrupted by a sudden shock of pain as Billie arrives on the balcony behind him. He drops to the floor, clutching his chest, crying out in pain. Castiel, shocked, sees the culprit above them.)
Cas: "Billie." (He grabs Dean by the shoulders to guide him away.)
Dean: "My heart... I can feel her."
Cas: "Come on, Dean. We gotta go. Come on."
(Castiel pulls Dean away, almost carrying him through the bunker as Dean gasps and grunts in pain. At the bottom of the stairs now, Billie follows them slowly, her hand still upturned and squeezing.)
Billie: "It's you, Dean. It's always been you. Death-defying. Rule-breaking. You are everything I lived to set right. To put down. To tame. You are human disorder incarnate."
(Dean collapses beside the bookshelves just out of view, gripping his chest. Castiel looks over his shoulder where Billie still approaches. She continues to follow slowly behind. In the downstairs hallway, Castiel's supporting Dean's weight with Dean's arm over his shoulders as he hurries him through the bunker, away from Billie. Dean clutches his heart, groaning in pain.)
Cas: "I've got you."
Billie: "Come on, Dean. You can't escape me. Don't you think it's finally time? Time for the sweet release of death?"
(Around another corner, Castiel guides Dean into basement storage room 7B and closes the door behind them. Dean coughs, still holding his chest as he doubles over. Castiel finds a pocket knife in Dean's back pants pocket and uses it to cut his own palm. He uses the blood to paint warding onto the door. Billie approaches the door. The warding glows as it completes. Dean inhales, leaning back in relief as the pain subsides. Castiel turns towards him.)
Cas: "Did it work?" (Dean swallows hard and nods.) "It blocked her grip on you."
(Billie pounds her fist against the door. It shudders. The warding crackles, but holds. The slow pounding continues periodically throughout Castiel and Dean's conversation.)
Cas: "Dean, she said that wound was killing her. Maybe we can wait her out."
Dean: "Yeah, and if we can't?"
Cas: "Then we fight."
Dean: "We'll lose." (walking slowly towards the back wall of the room, hopeless) "I just led us into another trap, all because I couldn't hurt Chuck. Because I was angry and because I just needed something to kill, and because that's all I know how to do." 15.18
The extra informations from the original script are added here in italic:
Cas: "Dean..." (approaches him)
Dean: "It was Chuck all along. We shouldn't have left Sam and Jack. We should be there with them right now." (They're both distraught. Everyone they care about is in danger.) Dean (tearfully): "Everybody's gonna die, Cas. Everybody. And I... I can't stop it."
(Cas' heart breaks to see Dean so broken. Cas looks around. With each of Billie's banging the warding sparks... like it'll all come down, at any moment, on Castiel, devastated - he turns to Dean, sees his resignation, his guilt and shame.)
Dean (approaches Cas): "She's gonna get through that door."
Cas (quietly): "I know."
Dean: "And she's gonna kill you... then she's gonna kill me." (Castiel and Dean exchange a look. Castiel agrees, but he can't bring himself to say it.) Dean: "I'm sorry."
(As the light sparks again, illuminating Dean's face - something occurs to Cas. The spark of an idea. He looks down at his bloody palm, then back at Dean. And we see Cas' POV of Dean again - his face drawn, drained of hope. But still beautiful. Still Dean Winchester.)
Cas: "Wait, there is... There's one thing she's afraid of. There's one thing strong enough to stop her." (Dean glances skeptically at Cas - then stops. He sees Cas is dead serious.) Cas (coming clean): "When Jack was dying, I made a deal. A deal to save him."
Dean: "You what?"
Cas: "The price was my life. When I experienced a moment of true happiness, the Empty would be summoned. It would come for me and take me... forever."
Dean: "Why are you telling me this now?"
(Cas is pacing, processing - working out an epiphany.)
Cas (tearfully): "I always wondered, ever since I took that burden, that curse, I wondered what it could be... what my true happiness could even look like. I never found an answer because the one thing I want... It's something I know I can't have." (On Dean, arrested by this strange confession. Cas looks up - eyes filling with tears. And the beginning of joy.) "But I think I know... I think I know now. Happiness isn't in the having, it's in just being. It's in just saying it." (And he fixes Dean with his stare.)
Dean: "What are you talking about, man?/ Saying what, Cas?"
Cas (steps closer): "I know. I know how you see yourself, Dean. You see yourself the same way our enemies see you. You're destructive, and you're angry, and you're broken. You're daddy's blunt instrument." (Dean senses Cas' urgency - but he has no idea where Cas' words will lead.) Cas: "And you think that hate and anger, that's... That's what drives you, that's who you are. It's not. And everyone who knows you sees it. Everything you have ever done, the good and the bad, you have done for love. You raised your little brother for love. You fought for this whole world for love. That is who you are. You're the most caring man on Earth. You are the most selfless, loving human being I will ever know." (he smiles, crying now) "You know, ever since we met, ever since I pulled you out of Hell... Knowing you has changed me. Because you cared, I cared. I cared about you. I cared about Sam, I cared about Jack... But I cared about the whole world because of you." (sad laugh as a tear rolls down his cheek) "You changed me, Dean."
(Dean is emotional. Cas' words have hit him deeply - striking right at the core of his self-doubt.) Dean (quiet): "Cas. What does this have to do with..." (then emotional) "Why does this sound like a goodbye?"
Cas: "Because it is." (On Cas - almost beatific. Eyes open, heart full - somehow happier than we've ever seen him. The warding fritzing, sparkling - about to come down. Cas pays it no mind. Dean is stunned, confused. Cas is lit up, ready to speak his deepest truth. Dean inhales, ready to say something, but Cas confesses before he can) "I love you."
(Cas smiles. On Dean, shocked - receiving this declaration from Cas. Castiel is filled with joy. Dean can't reciprocate, but Cas doesn't need him to. Saving Dean, sacrificing himself, speaking his truth - Cas is at peace.)
Dean: "Don't do this, Cas."
(A dark rift forms in the room, leaking black ooze. At the same time the door flies open, and Billie busts into the room - scythe in hand - a menacing silhouette... ready to kill them both. Cas pulls Dean close. There's a wet noise from behind Dean and he turns to see black goo from the Empty squeezing through the bricks in the bunker's wall as a portal begins to open. They both know what this means. There are tears in Dean's eyes as he turns back to Castiel. Castiel is still smiling tearfully. The warded door busts open. Billie stands behind it with her scythe. There's no more time.)
Dean: "Cas..."
Cas (puts his hand, bloodied from when he'd cut it for the warding, on Dean's shoulder): "Goodbye, Dean."
(Castiel shoves Dean aside. He hits the floor beneath the portal. A handprint of Castiel's blood remains on the shoulder of his jacket. Billie enters the room. Castiel looks at Dean one last time, smiling, and inhales as the black liquid tendrils of the Empty wrap around him. The Empty crashes against Billie, pulling her in along with them. Dean watches in shock as the portal to the Empty closes, and he's left alone, panting, stunned, tears in his eyes. He buries his face in his hands and begins to cry. Dean's phone rings. But Dean doesn't answer. He's in the corner, back to the wall. Shattered, hopeless, alone. Cas is dead.) 15.18
Jensen Ackles said that Dean wasn't sure Castiel can feel human emotions such as love since he is an angel. In the Spanish Dub, Dean replies to the confession with "y yo a ti, Cas", which translates to "And I you, Cas".
- "I know how dead you are inside. How worthless you feel. I know how you look into a mirror and hate what you see. (...) Talk about low self-esteem. Then again, I guess it's not much of a life worth saving, now, is it? I mean, after all, you got nothing outside of Sam. You are nothing. You're as mindless and obedient as an attack dog. What are the things that you want? What are the things that you dream? (...) Do you even have an original thought? No. (...) You can still hear your dad's voice in your head, can't you? Clear as a bell. I mean, think about it. All he ever did was train you, boss you around. But Sam... Sam, he doted on. Sam, he loved. Dad knew who you really were: a good solider and nothing else. Daddy's blunt little instrument. Your own father didn't care whether you lived or died. Why should you?" Dean to himself in his dream 3.10 https://tottonne.tumblr.com/post/635879177520807936
Jack: "Where's Cas?"
Sam: "Dean?"
Dean: "He saved me. Billie was coming after us, and Cas summoned the Empty. It took her. And it took him. Cas is gone."
Sam: "This can't be happening."
Dean: "It is, Sam. (...) Jack, I'm sorry." 15.19
Dean: "Alright, Chuck. You win. The whole Cain-and-Abel thing. Us dead. Whatever. I'll kill Sam. Sam will kill me. We'll kill each other. Okay? You pick. But first, you got to put everything back the way it was. The people, the birds, Cas. You got to bring him back."
Sam: "We're surrendering. We're giving up."
Chuck: "Yeah, no. I mean, I appreciate the white flag, but, frankly, it's too little, too late. I'm kind of enjoying this story now."
Dean: "You can't."
Chuck: "Oh, no, see, I'm the almighty. I really can. I mean, picture it. The two of you... and your little lapdog Jack... Rotting on a lifeless planet, knowing it's this way because you wouldn't take a knee. Eternal shame, suffering, and loneliness." 15.19
Chuck: "Is this where you kill me? I mean, I could never think of an ending where I lose. But this, after everything that I've done to you... To die at the hands of Dean Winchester, the ultimate killer... It's kind of glorious."
Dean: "Sorry, Chuck. See, that's not who I am." 15.19
- "I know how you see yourself, Dean. You see yourself the same way our enemies see you. You're destructive, and you're angry, and you're broken. You're daddy's blunt instrument. You think that hate and anger, that's what drives you, that's who you are. It's not. And everyone who knows you sees it. Everything you have ever done, the good and the bad, you have done for love. You fought for the whole world for love. That's who you are. (...) I love you." Cas to Dean 15.18
Jack: "Dean, I'm not coming back home. In a way... I'm already there. Everywhere. I'm around. I'll be in every drop of falling rain, every speck of dust that the wind blows, and in the sand, in the rocks, and the sea."
Dean: "It's a hell of a time to bail. You got a lot of people counting on you, people with questions. They're gonna need answers."
Jack: "And those answers will be in each of them. Maybe not today, but... someday. People don't need to pray to me or to sacrifice to me. They just need to know that I'm already a part of them and to trust in that. I won't be hands on. Chuck put himself in the story. That was his mistake. But I learned from you and my mother and Castiel that... when people have to be their best... they can be. And that's what to believe in. Well... I'm really as close as this." (Jack puts his hand over his heart) "Goodbye." (Jack walks off and disappears)
Sam: "See ya, Jack." 15.19
Sam: "I'm just... I'm thinking about Cas, you know? Jack. If they could be here."
Dean: "Yeah. Yeah, no. I think about 'em, too. You know what? That pain's not gonna go away. Right? But if we don't keep living, then all that sacrifice is gonna be for nothing." 15.20
- "That's one deep dark... nothing you've got there, Dean. Can't fill it, not with food, or drink, not even with sex. You can smirk and joke and lie to your brother, lie to yourself, but not to me. I can see inside you, Dean. I can see how broken you are, how defeated. You can't win, and you know it. But you just keep fighting, just keep going through the motions. Because inside, you're already... dead." Famine to Dean 5.14
- "No. I can't... Um... If I let myself go, then I'll lose my mind. I can't right now." Sam to Dean after Eileen's death 15.18 (German syncro: "If I admit this feeling, I'll lose my mind.")
Dean: "You knew it was always gonna end like this for me. It was supposed to end like this, right?"
Sam: "No, no. Stop, okay? Just... Just stop."
Dean: "It's okay. It's okay. It's good. It's good."
Sam: "I will find a way, okay? I-I will find another way."
Dean: "No, man. No. No. No, no, no, no. No bringing me back, okay? (...) I'm fading... I'm fading pretty quick, so... there's a few things that I need you to hear. I'm so proud of you, Sam. You know that? I've always looked up to you. You never... You never took any of dad's crap. I never knew how you did that. You're stronger than me. You always have been. (...) And I don't know what I would've done... if I didn't have you. 'Cause I was so scared. I was scared. (...)"
Sam (crying): "Don't leave me. Don't leave me. I can't do this alone."
Dean: "Yes, you can."
Sam: "Well, I don't want to."
Dean: "Hey. I'm not leaving you. I'm gonna be with you..." (Dean is crying as he places his fist over Sam's heart) "Right here... every day. Every day you're out there and you're li... and you're living and you're fighting, 'cause you... You always keep fighting. You hear me? I'll be there every step. I love you so much. My baby brother. Oh, man. Well, I did not think this would be the day. But it is. It is, and that's... man... that's okay. I need you to... I need you to promise me. I need you to... to... to tell me... that it's okay. I need you to tell me that it's okay."
Sam (looks away, shaking his head, crying): "No."
Dean (softly pleading): "Look at me. Look at me. I need... I need... I need you to tell me that it's okay. I need you to tell me... Tell me it's okay."
Sam (through tears): "Dean... it's okay. You can go now."
Dean: "Goodbye, Sam. Goodbye." (Dean closes his eyes, one last tear streams down his face.) 15.20
- Billie: "You've changed. You could've asked to live. Maybe you're not that guy anymore, the guy who always thinks he'll win no matter what. You have changed. And you tell people it's not a big deal. You tell people you'll work through it, but you know you won't, you can't." Dean: "What do you want me to say? I don't matter. I couldn't save Cas. Sam keeps trying to fix it, but I just keep dragging him down. So I'm not gonna beg. It's my time." Billie: "You wanna die." Dean: "Well, I guess I made my choice." 13.05
Bobby: "That kid of yours, before he went... wherever, made some changes here. Well, he set some things right. Tore down all the walls up here. Heaven ain't just reliving your golden oldies anymore. It's what it always should have been. Everyone happy. Everyone together. And your mom and dad... they got a place over yonder. It ain't just Heaven, Dean. It's the Heaven you deserve. And we've been waiting for you."
Dean: "So, Jack did all that?"
Bobby: "Well... Cas helped. It's a big, new world out there. You'll see."
Dean (a little sadly): "It's almost perfect."
Bobby (looking towards Dean): "He'll be along. Time up here, it's... it's different. You got everything you could ever want... or need or... dream. So, I guess the question is... what are you gonna do now, Dean?" 15.20
- Kaia: "So... what do I do now?" Jody: "Well, uh, if you want, come back to Sioux Falls, my home." Kaia: "Will Claire be there?" Jody: "She will be. Soon." Kaia [smiles tearfully]: "Thank you." 15.12
- Sam: "So, what do we do?" Dean: "What do we always do when we lose one of our own? We fight. We fight to bring them back." 14.18
Bobby antwortet mit "He'll be along. (...) You got everything you could ever want... or need (...)" Und wir erinnern uns wie Dean gegenüber Cas immer wieder betont: "I need you."
