The twin foxes, tired of their punishment, were out for revenge.
After Mimas and Erakis had tricked Castor and Pollux, they were still counting the mice underground.
They were not happy about it, for they couldn't play many tricks this way. For a long time, they had made up their mind to retaliate by the biggest prank yet.
During their pointless counting, they had met many animals and started to make a plan to scare Mimas and Erakis.
Finally came the day on which Vulpecula set them free of their task, sure his sons had learned their lesson by now. Free at last, Castor and Pollux immediately gathered their friends.
They went to the lizard Lacerta, to the crab Cancer, to the bird of paradies Apus and to the snake Serpens. Finally they asked Regulus for help, and the lion agreed. In their prank, the twins wanted to build a monster to scare Mimas and Erakis Crimsonstar.
Thus they built the dragon: Scales like a lizard, armour like a crab. Apus gave it wings and the snake gave it poison. Finally, Regulus gave the monster his roar.
What the twins had created was a soulless golem. They named him Thuban. He looked scary, but he wasn't dangerous - apart from the snake's poison. The twins didn't know that Serpens had given the golem real poison, a dangerous poison bringing bad luck to everybody touched by it. While building, they had all been poisoned by it, but the snake hadn't said a word. For a small part of the darkness had entered Andromeda and had made Serpent's heart it's home, unbenounced to everybody.
Castor and Pollux proceded to spy on their victims. They waited, until Mimas and Erakis were on their own. Then they sent the golem, without even knowing about it's danger.
The dragon attacked the fox and the red wolf and spew it's poison. Mimas and Erakis fled in fear, the golem followed. Finally, he cornered them at the edge of a ravine. Side by side, Mimas and Erakis stood, ready to fight until the end - but then came the twins and made the golem stop.
Mimas and Erakis were confused, but quickly connected the dots and realised they had been pranked. The twins explained everything and destroyed the golem, and the fox and the red wolf reluctantly agreed to a truce with the twins. It seemed the four of them were even for once. But as is the nature of revenge, only bad can come from it.
The darkness inside the snake, a piece of the eclipse, was in love with the creation of the dragon. Vigilantly, it had studied all that had worked on it, now it wanted to create a dragon of it's own. But this one would be fused with a soul of darkness to destroy all enemies of the night.
But the darkness wasn't strong enough to beginn it's work just yet. It knew it had to work in secret, so nobody, most importantly not Lupus, would spot the poison inside Andromeda.
The snake went with her siblings, the smaller and greater wasersnakes, Hydrus and Hydra, to the Norma-Lake, where the darkness could grow stronger in secret. All three snakes were soon poisoned, and they wouldn't be the last creatures to fall from light.
In the meantime, Mimas and Erakis had made peace with the twins and accompanied the other animals involved in the prank to their homes. First the lizard Lacerta, then the bird of paradies Apus, then the crab Cancer. On their way to the acaciameadow, where Regulus lived, they met Virgo.
The she-wolf still tendet to her task of fighting the darkness by planting small flowers. She worked even harder, now that the darkness had almost made it's way inside. The travelers offered to help her, and Virgo agreed. While working, the twins had an idea.
"Now it's this: We have gotton our revenge for being tricked. And you took revenge for us scaring you before. But regulus has not gotten a punishment yet. He scared someone and didn't get scared in return. He and the others, they deserve a prank." So they thought, and they started to make a plan. They wanted to scare Regulus first. On the feet of a high cliff, they put a lot of hay. Then they told Regulus, Virgo wanted him to spread flowers there.
Of course the lion went there. But as he arrived, the cliff crumbled below his paw. Like the foxed had planned, the lion fell. But then Castor and Pollux saw that the wind had carried the hay away, where Regulus should have landed without harm. The poison of misfortune Serpent had spread, began to affect them.
If it hadn't been for Virgo, who arrived in this moment to catch Regulus, it would have ended in desaster. But she could save the lion.
Soon, they learned she hadn't sent Regulus to the cliff, and the twins admitted to their prank.
"Are you still not satisfied?", Erakis asked, when he heard of it. "Your pranks will claim a life, if you keep going on like that! I thought you had learned your lesson while counting mice."
But the twins had only understood it now. It's the nature of a fox, to play pranks without regard for the consequences. They promised to stop the pranks now and apologized to Regulus.
Together, the group decided to not involve Vulpecula this time. The twins now owed a lot to them all, and Regulus also swore to pay it back to Virgo that she had saved his life. Now they could return without fear of new pranks.
They were sure to have finally found peace, not knowing that the true danger was allowed to carry on unchallenged.
