Only one black trunk
lined with a strip of white
Darker than the night
but the lantern spotlights him
Like a dark shadow
Without a subject that calls me to life
I approach my silent friend
but he sees me at once
Without eyes, even in the dark
he recognizes me from afar
as if it were now brighter than day -
every cell an organ of sight
He invites me to be at his side
eyes closed, membrane open
to take in all life, all stars, all beings
inside me at the same time.
I let the revelation unfold
I feel wide and rich and light
refreshed to the depths of my core
as a soft breeze blows away the remnants of my fear.
Safe and sound I cradle myself
rooted in the love of my friend
I become a tree, even if only
for this one moment.
