It was nearly 11 p.m. and Noemi was finally sleeping.
Isabella settled in front of the fireplaces and wrapped herself up in her blanket. She shivered and didn't know what to say when Jonathan finally asked her how her doctors appointment went.
It was as if a storm was brewing inside of her.
Without so much as a by your leave tears were streaking her cheeks and her body was wracked with sobs.
Jonathan jumped up from the chair by the fire and wrapped her into his arms. He didn't speak. He knew words would be meaningless at the moment. He couldn't promise his wife they would get to keep their child or that everything would be alright. He didn't know. And Jonathan hated nothing as much as empty words and his wife was same.
Isabella clung to him shaking like a leaf and crying.
Jonathan's warm hands gently rubbed her back and he hummed a lullaby that was usually reserved for Noemi but he knew Isabella loved it.
Slowly she calmed down. Her head rested against her husbands shoulder with her eyes closed. Her breathing slowly evened out and without conscious thought she drifted of to sleep.
Jonathan smiled. He still didn't know shit about the situation but keeping his wife calm and steady was more important than him knowing how the appointment went.
Isabelle could tell him in the morning.
Carefully he rearranged both of them on the sofa and made sure Isabella was in a position that would be easy on her body, before he stared into the fire in front of him.
The crackling of the logs and the dancing flames soothed his own frazzled nerves and minutes after Isabella Jonathan was also asleep.
